The crew of the RUNNER’S HIGH were smuggling vital weaponry to the resistance on the planet Ryloth. After a brief cargo inspection by the Star Destroyer Vigilant, the crew landed on the planet and attempted to make the drop.
Surprise! Having discovered a surveillance device on the side of the ship left by the sinister agents of the GALACTIC EMPIRE they were forced to blast their way to freedom with their Twi’lek resistance contacts in tow.
After their daring breakout from the the Imperial star port, Terminus, they evaded and shot down four TIE fighters in a hectic struggle to escape the Ryloth system. Punching into hyperspace towards the nearby planet Tatooine, domain of the vile gangster JABBA THE HUTT, what could lie in store for our motley crew of heroes?
Our heroes, Dax, Zarn, Nack, and Riff Milavsky, were en route to Tatooine to escape from the Star Destroyer Vigilant and the clutches of the fearsome Imperial Security Bureau. Also aboard the Runner’s High were a half dozen Twi’lek Resistance fighters including their contact on Ryloth Nawara Sivron.
From Siv and his men they discovered that the source of the Ryll which the Resistance had been exchanging for weapons was none other than the mines owned by Teemo the Hutt, nephew of Jabba and one of the major stakeholders in the Ryll market on Ryloth. They revealed that, in exchange for sparing his mines from attack by the Resistance (who are known for their hostility to off-world businessness which they feel exploit Ryloth or the Twi’lek people), he would periodically allow shipments of the valuable narcotic to go “missing” and to fall into their hands.
Siv proposed that they go to Teemo for help, although the other Twi’lek opposed this saying the Hutt could not be trusted. Realizing their danger Siv asked the crew to stay with them upon their arrival and provide both protection and a means for escape, and Zarn seized this opportunity to negotiate a new deal with the Resistance by which they would receive triple the spice in exchange for their usual shipment of weapons in the future. The Twi’lek, in an unenviable position, were compelled to agree.
Upon their arrival at Tatooine, they were relieved to find no Imperial presence at the planet and were able to touch down in Mos Shuuta, the domain of the gangster and seat of his palace.
The town sat on a series of small rocky hills overlooking an endless salt flat. Looking as though it had seen better days, like all of the towns on Tatooine it was surrounded by a thick wall and guarded by an electrogate as the only entrance in or out by land.
Dax, Riff, and Nack went immediately to Vorn’s Junk Shop, where the portly Besalisk Vorn Deshaad sold them the battered remains of the droid R5-D4 as well as attempting to push a moisture vaporator which he had been unable to sell for several months previous. Beating off his attempts to push the vaporator, they were able to acquire the droid (which Vorn assured them could not be fixed) as well as an assortment of spare droid parts for the laughably small sum of 50 credits.
Zarn, meanwhile, accompanied the Twi’leks to Teemo’s palace where they were most unexpected by the startled Hutt crime lord. In a flurry of Huttese the Twi’leks explained their problem and begged Teemo for his aid, which he seemed to reluctantly give (for what price, Zarn could not tell). Teemo said he would need a few days to secure what was needed.
Having seemingly secured a respite from their Imperial Entanglements, the crew of the The Runner’s High were looking to spend the night with a quiet drink. They retired to the local cantina , the Devil’s Pit (owned by a Devaronian) along with their Twi’lek associates. The cantina was fairly empty, so they all settled down for a drink and to toast their luck in escaping the Empire, destroying four TIEs without a single scratch, and to celebrate their new business opportunity out of this chaotic situation.
However, it was not to stay quiet for long. Four Gamorrean guards, fresh off duty from their shift at Teemo’s palace, were looking to drink their disgusting fermented fat drink and start some drunken fisticuffs. Dax Andari, recognizing the proclivity of Gamorreans to get violent, tried to make sure they didn’t see him and his friends as a potential fight by buying all the Gamorreans a drink. A pair of guards started a drunken brawl among themselves on the stage that was usually adorned by Twi’lek dancing girls. Though they were very thankful for the drinks bought by Dax Andari, they became perhaps too thankful, and started aggressively slapping the also short tempered Nack on the back in jest.
Being that he was denied the fight with any Stormtroopers when they fled Ryloth, Nack’s itchy trigger finger instinctively found its home on one of his pistols. Sensing that the drunken pig-man was about to take a swing, Nack reflexively punched first, but it failed to lay the Gamorrean out. Thankfully, the alcohol had hit him hard and the Gamorrean’s blows also failed to land. By this point Riff pulled out his own pistol and was ready to take his chances on ending the situation with red hot plasma.
Luckily, the cooler heads of Dax Andari and Zarn Ven Mleskag were able to use their tongues to diffuse before it became deadly and possibly angering their boss with whom they still had business, and thus the crew with their Twi’lek allies returned to their ship to await the new identities which Teemo had promised.
An oversight, however, during their escape from Ryloth led them to rediscover the surveillance device which had been placed – and which remained – on their ship. After Riff disabled the device (and storing it for possible future use), they settled in for the night…
They awoke the next morning to the scream of Imperial TIE Fighters in the skies of Tatooine.
What lies in store for our reluctant heroes…? Find out next time!
